Citizenship Application
Citizenship: To become a Canadian citizen, you must:
- Be a Permanent Citizen
- Have lived in Canada for 3 out of the last 5 years (Physical presence in Canada for at least 1095 days during the five years right before the date you sign your application is required. It is suggested to apply with more than 1095 days of physical presence to have extra days in case there is a problem with the calculation.
- Have filed your taxes, if it was required (or at least 3 years during the 5 years right before the date you apply)
- Prove your language skills (In Canada, there are two official languages: English and French. If you are aged 18 to 54 years on the day of application, you must show that you can speak and listen at a specific level in one of these languages. You need to meet the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) Level 4 or higher)
- Pass Citizenship test; test on your rights, responsibilities and knowledge of Canada (If you are aged 18 to 54 years on the day of application, you need to take the citizenship test in English or French, which is 30 minutes long and have 20 questions (pass mark: 15 correct answers). The test is based on the official citizenship study guide: Discover Canada. It is usually written, but may be oral)
