Provincial nominee program
Provincial Nominee Program (PNP): Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) makes all immigration decisions for all provinces and territories (excluding Quebec) but different provinces / territories in Canada also have some say in immigration when it comes to Provincial Nominee Program, as they know better what is happening in their labour market and what are their requirements regarding skilled workers or new businesses.
Economic growth of any province / territory depends on having required and sufficient skilled and qualified people to meet their labour market needs. PNP is one of the fastest ways to gain permanent residency in Canada for those who are in high-demand based on their qualification and experience and experienced business people.
This is, in actual, driving this PNP. (Note: Quebec has its own independent system).
As the name of the program suggests, provinces and territories may nominate prospects to IRCC. Basically, they tell IRCC that they recommend this potential prospect for permanent residency if they come to their province. So, when you are nominated by a province or territory, then it becomes easy to apply for permanent residency as a provincial nominee. They can nominate/invite candidates who:
- Have the willingness to live in that province / territory
- Have the required skills, education and work experience
Each province and territory have its own streams (types of immigration programs) and criteria for different types of categories (skilled, semi-skilled prospects, students and business class), they want to nominate.
