Hiring foreign worker/LMIA Application

Hiring foreign worker/LMIA Application

Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA): A document that an employer in Canada may need to get before hiring a foreign worker. A positive LMIA shows that there is a need for a foreign worker to be hired for the job and there is no availability of a Canadian worker to do that job.

Sometimes, when employers need some types of temporary workers, they need to get a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) before the worker can apply for a work permit. An LMIA is a document from Employment and Social Development Canada, that gives permission to the employer to hire a temporary worker.

Different types of LMIAs are in system to hire different types of foreign workers, such as High-wage workers, Low-wage workers, Seasonal Agricultural Workers and Workers required in Agricultural stream.
